History of UK Triathlon Race Series

Triathlon is now recognised around the world as well as being an established Olympic sport. It is also the fastest growing participation sport in the UK as it accommodates complete novices as well as professionals.

The UK Triathlon Series was established in 1993 with a small event in Nantwich that had a field of 100 competitors, the series has grown to become the largest triathlon race series in the UK today that caters for complete novices, elite athletes and everyone in between. We stage 8 triathlons across the UK as well as a running event; with multiple distances at our events we are accessible to all, regardless of fitness and ability.

Biography of Vic Bickerton, Event Organiser

In 1991 Vic caught the triathlon bug and started competing in triathlon, up to and including Ironman distance (2.4M swim, 112M cycle, 26.2M run).

He has organised over 100 triathlons since 1993, including World Qualifier, International and National Championship events.

He’s also been the race commentator at many other events including the UK Ironman.

As a keen fundraiser, Vic has been actively involved in sport and triathlon and amongst his personal achievements cycled 1200 miles around the Florida coast for Mencap and cycled Lands End to John O’Groats in 5 days for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Biography of Keith Hancock, Race Director

Our race director has a proven track record in the world of athletics, having coached athletes to a national level.

Keith is actively involved in the national children’s Sportshall Athletics programme and also a national instructor of teachers’ athletics in primary schools. Keith is known as “Mr Golden Mile” to over 100,000 children who have participated in the unique health and fitness scheme he devised and implemented.

In 2002 he joined the UK Triathlon Race Series where his organisational skills have come to the fore to ensure our race series has grown to become the largest race series in the UK.

Naturally, he is a keen runner and has run the London Marathon 5 times raising £25,000 for charity.
